本計畫主要工作內容包括（1）研擬五項國家永續發展議題之前瞻性科技研析報告，並提行政院國家永續發展會委員會會議報告、（2）完成「國家永續發展法」規劃架構及建議草案、（3）研擬「國家永續發展政策綱領」草案，並協助各部會依據前向國家永續發展政策綱領，研提各該部會永續發展行動計畫（單行本）及辦理「2009永續發展國際論壇」，及（4）研擬「永續發展指標系統（修正）」。
本計畫已完成（1）奈米科技與健康風險、永續能源、永續社會與福祉、氣候變遷與節能減碳與永續國土資源等五項議題之前瞻性研析報告。（2）參考國內外相關法案內容及各界意見後，草擬完成「國家永續發展基本法」之規劃架構及草案（初稿）。（3）辦理「2009永續發展國際論壇」，除邀請英國、德國、日本、美國與馬來西亞等國講者做專題演講外，並與國內參與永續發展工作之各界人士進行意見交流，本次論壇總計327人參與。（4）協助永續會秘書處編撰完成「國家永續發展政策綱領（草案）」及「永續發展行動計畫」。（5）依參考聯合國永續指標第3版架構，參考國際相關指標及我國現行指標，並協助永續會秘書處召開4次跨部會研商會議及4場北、中、南、東區域座談會後，綜合各界意見研擬「我國永續發展指標系統修正版（草案）」。（6）設計永續發展福祉問卷並進行調查，就181份有效問卷完成意見研析，供秘書處作為日後政策研擬之參考。
The objective of the project included preparing a proactive report of five issues of sustainable development, a framework and draft of Sustainable Development Law and a draft of Sustainable Development Strategy. It also included assisting Departments to draw up a Sustainable Development Action plan (a pamphlet). Furthermore, it included holding a 2009 international Sustainable Development forum and preparing Taiwan Sustainable Development Indicator (revised).
The proactive report of five issues (Nanotechnology and Health Risk, Sustainable Energy, Sustainable Society and Well-being, Climate Change Energy Saving and Carbon Reduction, and Sustainable territory and a draft of Sustainable Development Law were accomplished. The project assisted secretariat of Sustainable Development Committee to prepare the Sustainable Development Strategy (Draft) and Sustainable Development Action Plan (Draft). The 2009 international Sustainable Development forum was held on June 9th and10th at the National Central Library. Five foreigner speakers from England, Germany, Japan, US and Malaysia were invited to join the forum. The revised Sustainable Development indicators were constructed, which included 11 themes, 38 issues and 96 indicators. The Well-being questionnaire were designed and 181 effective questionnaires were recycled.
